Here we go again and again and again. I know this happened a while ago, but I need to write about it.
Grace Tame is an Australian activist and advocate for survivors of child sexual assault. Tame was named 2021 Australian of the Year on 25 January 2021.
Despite all the good she has done for women, she will be remembered for this photo and others like it.
I love this photo. The look on her face speaks volumes. The disgust is palpable. Instead of reaching out and offering her support, she was attacked (mainly by men and male run news organisations) for not showing respect to scomo (Scott Morrison). Just because he is the prime minister, he does not automatically deserve her respect. In fact he deserves this look due to his lack of action and compassion towards women who have been sexually assaulted within Parliament house and in Australia.
And so the battle continues… men continue to discredit women so they can remain in power and keep the patriarchy strong. Then of course there are the women who attach themselves to these men to forward their needs at the expense of other women.
I wrote a log about this in February 2017…

…and again in September 2018…

…and here we are in 2022 and it is getting worse. Men, particularly white men, are fighting harder and meaner to keep themselves in power.
On days like today, I feel beaten, broken and a failure. It feels like the patriarchy will never be dismantled.
Grace and others like her shine a beacon of light into this darkness and give us hope that one day the patriarchy will collapse.
